Among frequent travelers to sub-Saharan Africa, Botswana is widely and wisely admired. In this, our third safari to Botswana, we'll again discover why. On an itinerary that takes us both to the Kalahari savanna and the fertile Okavango Delta, we'll come to know the immense variety and grandeur of her landscapes, the magnificence of her wildlife, and the remarkable comfort of her hospitality.
By day, we'll venture out in open 4x4 vehicles in search of black-maned lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and cheetah, as well as the exceedingly rare - and endangered - African wild dog. In the evening while dining, we might notice an elephant bathing in a nearby river; from our motorized launches, we could well spy a pride of lions on a prowl. Later at night, we might catch the sound of hippos grazing just beyond our camp perimeter and then, at first light, awaken to the songs of hundreds of birds greeting a new day. In the Okavango Delta, we'll visit two extraordinary camps that offer access to one of the earth's largest inland water systems via mokoro - boating excursions - and wildlife drives. We'll then head to the Khwai Private Reserve and our third luxury camp, Sable Alley, where the riverine landscape is prime habitat for hippo and crocodile, elephant, red lechwe, a plethora of birdlife, and numerous predators.
Our naturalist on this journey, Graham Johansson, is well known in Southern Africa for his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm. A highly experienced guide and accomplished photographer, Graham served W&L travelers well on our previous Botswana safaris in 2010 and 2015. He is exceptional at interpreting natural history, capturing visual moments, and making every second of our safari count. Our personally selected accommodations offer the perfect blend of old-world safari ambience and modern amenities, with extraordinary access to the surrounding wildlife and personalized service. The tour includes several internal flights by light aircraft and offers an optional pre-extension in South Africa and a post in Zambia for Victoria Falls.
