Experiential Learning
Experiential Learning
Opportunities to apply your learning are varied and plentiful at W&L, with courses, clubs and co-curricular programs for every interest. You might tackle a research project on behalf of a non-profit organization or study and intern in Washington, D.C. — or London. You may supply clean water to impoverished communities or analyze data to predict the next presidential candidate or hot stock. Perhaps you will volunteer at a domestic violence shelter or prove your entrepreneurial chops for the benefit of a local business.
Mock Convention
Mock Convention is a simulated presidential nominating convention held every four years by the students of W&L. Its goal is to predict who the party out of power in the White House will nominate to run for President of the United States. Our tireless research efforts with our community resources and depth of data make the Washington and Lee Mock Convention the most accurate in the country.
Washington and Lee Student Consulting (WLSC)
The WLSC is open to students of all majors, and provides pro bono consulting services to businesses and not-for-profit community organizations all over the world.
The Community-Academic Research Alliance
The Community-Academic Research Alliance supports research partnerships between W&L students and non-profits in the Rockbridge area to address pressing community challenges.
Engineering Community Development
Engineering Community Development brings together students of all majors and interests to enhance the living conditions of developing communities locally and worldwide through health, water, sanitation or energy projects.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
ESOL facilitates communication within the increasingly diverse population in Rockbridge County. Although ESOL has focused on the Latinx community, the program works with speakers of all languages, offering formal ESOL classes, one-on-one tutoring, free translation of documents, and a hotline to provide immediate interpreting services.
