Chapter Event Spotlights

Holiday Parties 2019

From November - December 2019, chapters from Los Angeles to Florida celebrated the holidays in style. More than 20 chapters decked the halls and found the reason for the season, from parties to volunteer opportunities. We're already looking forward to next year's festivities! Holiday Party: Sewanee and W&L

To honor the retirement of Sewanee's Vice Chancellor, John Malcolm (W&L Class of 1971), the two universtities joined forces to host a holiday party in Nashville this December. More than 200 Generals and Tigers celebrated together at Fat Bottom Brewing!

Exploring Four Centuries of W&L: Richmond

As part of an ongoing series to introduce herself and her extensive work to alumni chapters, Lynn Rainville visited Richmond, VA in November. She delivered a presentation on W&L's remarkable and storied history, and then responded to questions from alumni. She will continue to travel during 2020.

Apple-Picking: Northern New Jersey

This fall, the alumni in Northern New Jersey planned a family-friendly activity that was perfect for "sweater weather." Their November trip to Alstede Farms gave them an opportunity to pick apples and enjoy the weather as Generals.

Tailgate: Jacksonville

This November, the Jacksonville chapter hosted a tailgate for the UF - UGA rivalry game. While the Gators didn't take home a victory, the event was a success, giving alumni a chance to reconnect and enjoy the fall weather!

Mock Con Road Show

During Fall 2019 Reading Days, Mock Con students Parker Catlett '20, Jimmy Fleck '20, John Harashinski '20 and Elizabeth Thompson '20 visited chapters throughout the country to update alumni on Mock Con 2020. Parker and Jimmy visited Richmond, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. chapters, while John and Elizabeth toured Texas, making stops in Dallas, Houston and Austin.

WTTC: Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Chapter welcomed its newest members this October during its Welcome to the City event. The chapter hosted the event at one of its favorite venues: Upper West and enjoyed meeting the newest West Coast Generals over light bites and drinks while catching up on all things W&L.

WTTC: Washington, D.C.

This September, W&L's Alumni Chapter in Washington, D.C. hosted its annual Welcome to the City event to greet 2019 graduates to the area. More than 50 alumni attended the event, held at Hawthorne on U Street. Generals reunited for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and great times to close out the summer and usher in a new class of alumni in the Capitol City.

Happy Hour: Winston-Salem

The Winston-Salem Alumni Chapter gathered at the Fiddlin Fish on Sept. 28 to watch the W&L football team take on Hampden-Sydney. Once a General, always a General!

SSO: Bluegrass

In August, the Bluegrass Alumni Chapter kicked off their chapter year by inviting all current and incoming W&L students to the home of Kenny Cribb ’70 for a party. Summer Send-Off events are such a fun tradition and a great way for current students to get involved with the alumni network before graduation!
