Student Aid Bill of Rights

Student Aid Bill of Rights

Washington and Lee University supports the actions of the federal government to make college more affordable and the application process more transparent. With this in mind, W&L has adopted the federal Shopping Sheet as part of every financial aid recipient's on-line award package. The federal Shopping Sheet describes the educational costs and the financial aid awarded by W&L to help students meet those costs. This standard format will assist students and families as they compare the aid provided by W&L and the cost to attend W&L versus other institutions.

In addition, the university supports the federal government "Student Aid Bill of Rights" which initiates efforts to ease the burden of student debt. W&L strongly believes in reducing student loan debt and has a long standing policy of offering aid packages which meet student need without the use of loans. We believe that any student who borrows should be educated on all aspects of their student loans. The W&L financial literacy program provides students immediate access to their full loan history including repayment estimates, and provides financial literacy education seminars from the initial loan through the repayment process. The W&L financial literacy program provides students with access to an experienced staff and the information they need to make wise borrowing choices.
