First-Generation Students

First-Generation Students

Washington and Lee University recognizes that being the first in your family to attend college is a huge accomplishment, and we are excited to be a part of this journey with you.

We want to ensure you have all the resources and support you need as you learn and grow with us. Faculty advisers, professors, resident advisers, peer counselors, and class deans believe in keeping their doors open and are available to talk with you.

In addition to regular support on campus, we offer information sessions for parents of first-generation students during parent-orientation, our two first-year student move-in weekends, and again during parent and family weekend.

First-Generation Low-Income Partnership

The First-Generation Low-Income Partnership (FLIP) is led and comprised of W&L students, dedicated to creating a supportive community for First Generation and/or Low-Income (FGLI) students. They advocate for FGLI issues as well as organize resources, events and student discussions and meetups.
